What to Expect at an Initial Invisalign® Consultation

Simple. Fast. Effective.

Getting ahead with a bit of knowledge never hurt anyone. We’re here to help you get the low down on your first step towards straighter, healthier teeth. Know that your certified Invisalign® professional is going to be with you every step of the way to help monitor and protect your teeth towards the shine and smile everyone can be proud of. So what happens at the first meeting? Generally, your local Invisalign® doctor site will give your mouth a look, identify if the Invisalign treatment is a viable option, and discuss what a treatment plan may look like.

Step 1: Close Up Please

It starts with a set of photos to see where your teeth stand. This helps dentists and orthodontists get a handle on the location of your teeth, if they are rotated, and identifying problem areas with overcrowding, irregular bites, as well as gaps. The pictures will also allow an Invisalign professional to identify how your jawline sits. Some of the photos will be done just by you smiling, others with be done with a camera inserted inside your mouth, or aided by wearing a large mouthpiece to keep your lips open and out of the way.

Step 2: Set Expectations

The consultation will, of course, include a chat covering expectations, initial thoughts, and any questions that you, the patient, have about the treatment. This would be a great time to tell your dentist or orthodontist about the specific areas you’d like to have treated. Since you’re dealing with a person that has tons of experience and a trained eye, they will likely have recommendations for switches and changes to your teeth that you did not anticipate that will help you keep them in better, healthier shape.

Step 3: Get a Comprehensive Explanation

Working through the process of Invisalign with a professional can be extremely helpful. The in-person exchange means you can ask questions at any time while getting a comprehensive understanding of how the treatment works. This will be better than any pamphlet, YouTube video, or explanation from your social circle. In person, consultations are incredibly valuable, and an initial visit will help you gauge your understanding, expectations, and comfort with what lies ahead.

Step 4: Working with a Timeline

You may get a scan or set of impressions done which will be sent to Invisalign. Your experienced dentist or orthodontist can at least give you a flexible estimate of the time the treatment will take as well as how many trays they expect you to need. Again, this is just a first visit and not a comprehensive plan. But it can be great for helping set up expectations for the future. Rough estimates may not be exact, but it certainly gets you on track.

Step 5: Price

This is the best time to figure out the final dollar sign associated with your bright future. Your dentist or orthodontist should be able to give you an estimate. Use this opportunity to explore options that your insurance plan may cover as well. Knowing what your insurance plan may cover by reviewing your plan as well as talking with the office of the dentist or orthodontist can help you get your estimate.

Step 6: See Previous Cases

Coming into an office means there is probably plenty of cases on display. Ask your professional if they have previous work they’ve done to show you. This can give you a sense of what they have treated and previous patients they have worked on. You can leave knowing you are in good, experienced hands.
